TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A 21-year-old woman surnamed Huang was tragically killed when a 30-kilogram air conditioning unit fell on her while she was waiting for a bus in New Taipei City on Thursday (July 20).
The incident has raised concerns about construction safety measures and prompted calls for stricter audits.
Huang suffered a severe head laceration from the air conditioning unit, which likely fell from the construction site on the 17th floor of the apartment building overlooking the street.
Despite immediate attention from bystanders, Huang lost vital signs on the scene and could not be revived. The death was instant and unexpected, causing shock and grief for bystanders and Huang's family.
Authorities are reviewing the construction company's safety measures, suspecting that the air conditioning system was improperly secured before it fell.
