PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — Pingtung Government announced Saturday (Sept. 23) that the factory explosion a day earlier resulted in five dead, five missing, and at least 98 injured. Search and rescue efforts continued through the night and into the early hours of Saturday at the manufacturing facility of Launch Technologies Co.
The tragic blaze resulted in 98 casualties, sending shockwaves to the nation and leaving dozens of families devastated.
Among the deceased, three have been confirmed as firefighters, while the remaining two were factory workers. The five individuals who remain unaccounted for include four factory workers and one firefighter.
The cause of the fire has not yet been identified; however, it is alleged to be linked to substances such as natural gas and alkanes present within the factory.
Magistrate of Pingtung County, Chou Chun-mi, has underscored the commitment to conduct a swift and thorough investigation. The Pingtung government will work in collaboration with the Export Processing Zone Administration to establish a platform for addressing compensation matters.
