TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an remains firm in supporting residents affected by Kee Tai's construction blunder on Wednesday (Sept. 13), despite the city government's recent provisional attachment rejection.
The mayor said he respected the court's ruling but indicated the Department of Legal Affairs may still appeal.
The Commissioner of the Department of Legal Affairs, Lien Tang-kai, stated the recent actions of Kee Tai Properties will influence their upcoming decisions. However, he pointed out that Kee Tai Properties has already transferred funds into the department's account to help residents settle down.
Some council members called explicitly for former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je to explain why he amended relevant regulations during his term, arguing that the government's role had been diminished as a result, with cases such as these.
Ko countered by saying the laws he instituted are more stringent, and dissenters need to shift their perspective.
Former Deputy Mayor Vivian Huang asserted they have strictly implemented related stipulations when questioned by concerned citizens.
Kee Tai's Dazhi construction case has both the former and the current mayor in challenging predicaments.
