Tai Nong admits to mislabeling the expiration dates on its imported Brazilian eggs (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) —Tai Nong Egg Products Ltd. admitted on Tuesday (Sept. 12) to erroneously labeling the expiration dates on its imported Brazilian eggs, stating that a complete recall and de-shelving has taken place.

Earlier Tuesday, Tai Nong stated that all imported eggs comply with the Food and Drug Administration's regulations. Due to the extensive volume and multiple batches of eggs they process daily, a standard month-long expiration date is generally labeled, leading to this oversight with the batch of Brazilian imported eggs.

The Ministry of Agriculture(MOA) had recently pointed out that the last batch of Brazilian eggs was shipped on May 30. However, Brazilian eggs, marked with an expiration date of October 5, supplied by the egg company, remained surfaced in the market.

The MOA clarified a day before that the shelf life of the imported eggs aligns with the dates indicated by the source in Brazil. Considering the shipments are thoroughly refrigerated and well packaged during transport, a shelf life of up to four months was plausible.

Following an investigation, the ministry said the special import project's latest batch of Brazilian eggs has expiry dates of Sept. 24, Sept. 25, and Sept. 27, placing all of the current Brazilian eggs within their valid shelf life.
