SHANGHAI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an announced on Thursday (Aug. 31) the significant results achieved at this year's twin-city forum: 45 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed between Taipei and Shanghai.

During a morning press briefing held before a meeting with around 50 Taiwanese business owners, Chiang highlighted that the MOUs encompassed various areas including culture, sports, and tourism.

Chiang emphasized the comprehensive nature of his three-day visit to Shanghai, which began on Tuesday and will conclude later today. He stated that this visit provided him with a comprehensive view of the city's progress across numerous fronts.

The primary purpose of hosting this forum, as Chiang pointed out, is to facilitate municipal exchanges between the two cities. He reiterated his commitment to continuing such interactions based on the foundations established in the past.

Just a day earlier, Huang Lu Ching-ju, the director of the Kuomintang (KMT) Taipei chapter, confirmed her leadership of a group consisting of 25 party committee members. This group is set to visit Shanghai on Sept. 12, following an invitation from China's Shanghai Committee and the Shanghai Office of Taiwan Affairs.

In regard to the upcoming KMT group visit, Chiang emphasized, "Given that the majority of people in Taiwan seek stability, peace, and prosperity, I view various forms of private exchanges as entirely normal."

Chiang's presence in Shanghai was in connection to the annual Taipei-Shanghai City Forum. This year's forum, themed "New Trends, New Developments," placed its focus on subjects such as low-carbon sustainability, the digital economy, and smart medical care.
