TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Saola was positioned approximately 210 kilometers south-southeast of Cape Eluanbi as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, (Aug. 30), moving at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour in a west-northwest direction, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

Having escalated to a severe typhoon the previous night, Typhoon Saola is expected to reach its closest proximity to Taiwan between Wednesday and Thursday morning.

The impact of Typhoon Saola will be most strongly felt in the southern and eastern regions of Taiwan. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are anticipated in these areas.

The CWB has issued an advisory indicating extremely heavy rainfall for Pingtung County, along with a heavy rain advisory for Taitung and Hualien Counties.

Furthermore, a heavy wind advisory was issued for Pingtung and Taitung counties.

It's noteworthy that due to the subsidence effect of the typhoon's periphery, the western half of Taiwan will experience elevated temperatures. Taking precautions against sun exposure is crucial in these areas.

In addition, another typhoon named Haikui is projected to strengthen into a moderate typhoon by Aug. 31 and is moving toward the southern Sea of Japan. Typhoon Haikui is forecasted to be nearest to Taiwan over the upcoming weekend, resulting in increased rainfall in the northern regions.

While Typhoon Haikui itself doesn't directly threaten Taiwan, it might interact with Typhoon Saola and possibly generate the Fujiwhara effect. This phenomenon, involving the slowing down of a typhoon due to its interaction with another nearby storm, remains under observation.
