TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foxconn Founder Terry Gou promised to lead Taiwan's economy in succeeding Singapore's in the next two decades to become Asia's highest GDP per capita on Monday (Aug. 28).
The business tycoon announced his presidential candidacy as an independent in the morning, emphasizing that his policy propositions include leading an "alliance on mainstream public opinion" and promoting an era where entrepreneurs govern the nation.
Gou questioned the current government's economic management ability in light of the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics' recent report, which revised Taiwan's economic growth rate to 1.95% for this year.
He emphasized that he uniquely possesses 50 years of practical experience in finance and economics among the candidates. He pledged that after the election, he would focus on developing Taiwan's economy and technology sector.
