TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen is reportedly visiting Taiwan's only ally in Africa, Eswatini, in late September, marking her second voyage to the African ally during her tenure.
President Tsai previously visited the allied nations of Guatemala and Belize in early April.
The Presidential Office did not issue a statement on the speculated visit, but Spokesperson Lin Yu-chan indicated that the Office would make an announcement if President Tsai had an upcoming diplomatic agenda.
President Tsai led a delegation team to Eswatini in 2018 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and the country which was her first African trip after taking office. The visit underscored her commitment to deepening the amicable relationship between the two nations.
Later in October 2022, King Mswati III of Eswatini visited Taiwan at the invitation of the Taiwanese government. During the visit, King Mswati III expressed gratitude for the warm reception, and noted the significance of high-level visits in strengthening the stable bilateral relations between the two nations.
