TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Lai Pin-yu's father and a former legislator himself, Lai Chin-lin, resigned as the chairman of J&V Energy Technology and all its subsidiary companies on Monday (Aug. 21).
Lai explained that his move aims to preclude his political affiliation, and past political service from becoming a flash point among specific political parties and political figures.
The opposition parties previously accused Lai, who was chairman of 20 energy-related companies, made up to NT$7.78 million in political donations between 2018 to 2022 to the DPP candidates.
The overall donation amount were attributed to J&V Energy (NT$3.85 million), Jin Cheng Energy (NT$3.1 million), Skynergy (NT$100,000), and NT$730,000 from Lai.
Lai denounced the accusations, saying, "I wish my resignation will truly contribute to Taiwan's future and green energy development. This is not devastating because my original intention remains sacred and solemn."
The board of J&V Energy expressed regret but respected Lai's resolution, ensuring that the company's operating conditions remain unaffected.
