TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City government announced on Friday (Aug.18) that Mayor Chiang Wan-an will lead a delegation to Shanghai from Aug. 29 to Aug. 31 to participate in the 2023 Taipei-Shanghai Twin-City Forum and exchange municipal experiences.

The forum, confirmed after numerous negotiations between Taipei and Shanghai City, will take place physically in Shanghai. Themed "New Trends, New Development," the conference will have Taipei's Department of Information Technology and the Shanghai Municipal Commission Of Economy and Informatization each deliver a keynote speech.

The two cities also plan to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) in carbon reduction, sustainability, the exhibition sector, and badminton, represented by their respective business managing offices.

Sub-forums will also be resumed and will be conducted by the Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Health, and Department of Economic Development, where topics such as "low-carbon sustainability," "smart healthcare," and "digital economies" will be discussed.

The Twin-City Forum, held continuously since 2010, has seen Taipei and Shanghai exchange ideas in city governance, culture and arts, tourism, medical health, sports, education, and trade industry.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted in-person gatherings for the past three years, but the upcoming forum is expected to resume and maintain the interaction between the two cities.
