TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen visited the Chiashan Air Force Base in Hualien on Air Force Day (Aug. 14), expressing gratitude for the military's continuous upkeep of high standards at their bases.
Tsai stressed the government's commitment to defense reforms and boosting national defense capabilities and resilience.
Tsai noted the tangible progress the government has made in promoting national defense autonomy and locally manufactured military equipment.
For instance, on last year's National Day, the new advanced trainer jet, the T-5 Brave Eagle, was presented to the public. The military has also improved the performance of the F-16 fighter aircraft, enhancing air combat capabilities.
Tsai pointed out that she had pledged her support for the military seven years ago. The government has gradually implemented defense reforms and invested substantial resources to strengthen national defense.
She stated that the Taiwanese public has increasingly affirmed the military over the past few years. The military's performance has also showcased the world of Taiwan's determination to protect its sovereignty. The government will continue supporting the military in their efforts to ensure national security, Tsai added.
