TAIPEI (TVBS News) — TSMC Founder Morris Chang highlighted on Tuesday (July 4) the paradigm shift in globalization strategies at the 26th-second members meeting of the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce, Taiwan (CNAIC).

In his speech, titled "Redefining Globalization," Chang detailed how globalization has shifted from comparative advantage-oriented to prioritizing national security and leadership in technology and the economy.

Chang's new definition of globalization is allowing local companies to invest in other nations and allowing foreign businesses and services into the country, as long as it does not hurt national security and the leadership of technology and the economy. He also said that globalization could be redefined at any time.

"But is this still globalization?" He asked at the end of his speech, leaving the question for the audience to answer.

During his speech, Chang also mentioned U.S. President Joe Biden's remarks at TCMC's new semiconductor plant in Arizona, which he felt uncomfortable to hear.

Biden said that the "Union is back." But Chang told the media that he doesn't necessarily think negatively about unions. However, he feels a good enterprise which the employees stand with, would not need a union at all.
