TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is reportedly close to completing its plan to build a plant in Germany, according to sources within the company's supply chain.
TSMC has reportedly requested quotes for equipment and consumables shipment to Germany, indicating that the plan is in the advanced stages. The company, however, noted that its evaluation of the European plant plan is still ongoing.
TSMC President C. C. Wei previously stated that the company is considering establishing a special process wafer fab in Europe based on customer demand and government support.
The plan has drawn much attention, with many rumors circulating about the project. Some reports even suggested that TSMC had considered Singapore an alternative due to difficulties meeting the requirements set by the European Union and German governments.
It remains to be seen whether TSMC will ultimately choose Germany or Japan as the location for its second semiconductor factory outside of Taiwan.
