TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Four people were injured in an explosion at the Jiupeng Military Base, a part of the National Chung-shan Institute of Science and Technology in Manzhou Township, Pingtung.

The Presidential Office spokesperson, Lin Yu-chan, said President Tsai Ying-wen had been informed about the incident and expressed concern about the condition of the injured.

Two victims have severe burns covering 85% and 50% of their bodies, and they are currently receiving medical care at the Hengchun Tourism Hospital and Hengchun Christian Hospital.

The accident happened during the disposal of residual substances, leading to a fire at the base, involved in weapons development and testing.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the president has ordered a swift clarification about the incident. All necessary measures will be taken to ensure workplace safety, the Presidential Office said.
