TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Presidential Office announced on Wednesday (Aug. 2) that Vice President Lai Ching-te will attend the inauguration of Paraguay's new president, Santiago Peña Palacios, leading a delegation on a 7-day tour starting Aug. 12.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui, the delegation will stop in New York before visiting Paraguay from Aug. 14 to 16. The delegation will also transit in San Francisco on the night of Aug. 16 and return home on Aug. 18.
The Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate will attend the inauguration as a presidential envoy on Aug. 15.
In response to media inquiries, Presidential Office spokesperson Olivia Lin stated that President Tsai Ing-wen hopes the delegation will deepen Taiwan-Paraguay's friendship and expand bilateral cooperation.
Yui provided further details on the itinerary, revealing that the mission's main activities in Paraguay will include attending the presidential inauguration, meeting with the incumbent and new presidents, and attending a state banquet, among other official engagements.
