TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City division of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) convened an ethics committee meeting on Friday (July 28) to review the actions of a KMT's legislative hopeful in New Taipei City, Lin Chin-chieh, and business tycoon Terry Gou.
This decision comes after they joined an event at the Shunsheng temple in Tucheng District a day earlier, leading to suspicions of potential violations of party discipline.
In his speech, Lin praised Terry Gou's contributions to vaccine procurement and shared campaign gadgets with the words "Support Lin Chin-chieh for Legislative Election and Support Terry Gou for President."
In response to the controversy, the KMT's New Taipei City division confirmed that Lin Chin-chieh breached party regulations. However, considering the importance of maintaining unity within the party and believing it was an unintentional first offense, they intend to issue a stern verbal warning to Lin.
In response to media inquiries, Lin Chin-chieh reaffirmed his unwavering support for the KMT and emphasized that throughout his eight-year tenure as a city councilor in New Taipei, he fully supported previous mayors, including Eric Chu and Hou Yu-ih, and the policies of the KMT.
He said he will wholeheartedly support Hou Yu-ih as the KMT's presidential nominee.
