TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Due to the terrain in the Greater Taipei area, the Central Weather Bureau issued a strong wind advisory on Thursday (July 27), urging residents to be cautious of sudden strong gusts.

Typhoon Doksuri approached southern Taiwan earlier that day, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. Wind speeds may reach Beaufort force 9 (20.8–24.4 m/s) or even force 10 (24.5–28.4 m/s) in the Greater Taipei Area.

According to Taipei MRT's website, metro trains running on elevated railways will stop operating if wind gusts reach force 10 (24.5 m/s) or the average wind speeds reach force 7 (13.9 m/s). This may result in passengers being asked to leave the train and move on foot.

Taiwan Railways suspended all operations on the South Link Line and the Hualien-Taitung line until 6 p.m. on Thursday. However, the Taiwan High Speed Rail remains fully operational as it is less affected by the typhoon.

Work and classes were not canceled despite the winds and scattered rain in the Greater Taipei Area. Only seven municipalities announced work and class cancellations on Thursday.

Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Hualien County, Taitung County, and Penghu County canceled work and classes for the entire day. Kinmen County announced cancellation starting in the afternoon.
