TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Downgraded to a moderate typhoon on Thursday (June 1), Typhoon Mawar continues to have a lingering impact on Taiwan.

In the morning, the mild typhoon was approximately 100 kilometers south-southeast of Miyako Island. However, the effects of its outer wind circulation were persistently causing rainfall in the northern regions.

Since yesterday, as Typhoon Mawar approached its closest proximity to Taiwan, various areas have suffered damage. Strong winds and heavy rainfall have been experienced in the central and southern regions.

Kaohsiung, in particular, has been heavily affected by intense rainfall. Additionally, in Changhua, a highly dramatic incident unfolded as the scaffolding at a construction site collapsed under strong winds.

Residents in the eastern areas should exercise caution against sun exposure and maintain hydration, as temperatures may rise to 36 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, Typhoon Mawar is expected to alter its course away from Taiwan, moving closer to Japan. While light showers may still occur in the northern regions, the overall rainfall intensity will significantly diminish.

Residents in coastal areas should also remain vigilant due to the potential for strong waves. In eastern and central western Taiwan, the weather will combine clouds and sunshine, with occasional showers anticipated in mountainous areas.

Heading into the weekend, Taiwan can anticipate primarily sunny conditions. However, individuals planning to venture into the mountains should exercise caution as thunderstorms may still occur.
