TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hou Yu-ih, the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate, is scheduled to visit Japan from July 31 to August 2.
During his trip, Hou will meet with members of the Japanese parliament and visit the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association. He also plans to grant interviews to local media outlets such as NHK and Asahi Shimbun to increase his regional exposure. There is also a possibility of Hou meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso.
Also, Hou will engage in cultural exchanges with overseas Taiwanese and visit the Tokyo Maso Temple. He will visit the Hibiya Matsumotoro, where he will be personally guided by the descendant of Sun Yat-sen's close friend, Umeya Shokichi, who was a supporter during Sun's revolution.
Hou's campaign office has arranged for his temporary leave from his duties as the New Taipei City Mayor, with the Deputy Mayor acting in his stead.
Finally, the head of the KMT Department of Overseas Affairs, Chen Yi-hsin, and the deputy head of KMT's Organizational Development Committee, Hsia Ta-ming, will accompany Hou on the trip.
