TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Vice President Lai Ching-te addressed over 40 foreign diplomats and representatives from 30 countries at an information session organized by the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) International Affairs Department on Thursday (July 6).
The ruling party chairman delivered a policy briefing in English, emphasizing the importance of facing current challenges and reaffirming the "Four Pillars of Peace Plan" to construct a responsible and stable regional environment.
Lai acknowledged that the upcoming 2024 elections and the following campaign activities are crucial for the future of the DPP. In light of the increasingly complex regional and international situations, he highlighted the significance of maintaining Taiwan's prosperity, security, and freedom.
He expressed gratitude for the growing international support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, emphasizing the importance of such support for Taiwan's security and the unity of its people.
The Vice President stated that the DPP must also focus on domestic affairs, emphasizing that peace and stability should not be reduced to mere campaign slogans but should serve as the foundation for responsible and sustainable policies.
He outlined the implementation of the "Four Pillars of Peace Plan," addressing Taiwan's challenges and the necessary measures to protect its freedom, democracy, and way of life.
The "Four Pillars of Peace Plan" proposed by Vice President Lai during the meeting aligns with his recent op-ed published by The Wall Street Journal.
It includes strengthening Taiwan's deterrence capabilities, constructing economic security, establishing partnerships with global democratic nations, and pragmatically supporting the current cross-strait status quo.
Lai stressed the importance of maintaining stability in Taiwan amid the ever-changing international environment, reiterating the commitment of the DPP over the past seven years and as he envisions his future presidency.
To realize these plans, he emphasized the necessity of winning the upcoming presidential and legislative elections through sustainable policies and strong candidates, including those from the Democratic Alliance.
