TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Zhinan Temple celebration on Wednesday (July 5) saw Taiwan's presidential candidates, Hou Yu-ih and Ko Wen-je, adeptly sidestepping any potential encounters.
The atmosphere was tense, given Ko's previous criticism of Hou's "three stances" regarding the 1992 Consensus.
When asked by local media during the temple event, the Kuomintang (KMT) candidate took a swipe at Ko, suggesting his lack of understanding of the Republic of China's (R.O.C., Taiwan) constitution.
In a pun-laden remark, Hou proposed sending a "textbook" to Ko for review.
Simultaneously, Ko addressed speculations surrounding Foxconn Founder Terry Gou's alleged last-minute cancellation of plans to visit the temple, purportedly upon learning that Hou, his rival for the KMT's 2024 election ticket, would be present.
Ko promptly refuted such claims, stating, "No, I don't think so; Taiwan is not so big." He further emphasized, "We don't need to avoid each other," asserting that everyone has Taiwan's best interests at heart.
The event concluded smoothly, with both candidates taking to the stage to deliver speeches commemorating the celebration.
