TAIPEI (TVBS News) — HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang expressed optimism on Friday (June 16) regarding investment and development in the mixed-reality (MR) ecosystem and unveiled plans to continue investing in artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), the metaverse, and blockchain.
Addressing Apple's MR headset Vision Pro during HTC's shareholder meeting, Wang expressed her satisfaction at the world-leading tech giant's entry into the game, saying, "HTC has invested in VR, AR, AI, 5G, and blockchain for nine years."
While the Taiwan-based technology company has faced challenges in recent years, Wang acknowledged that she had let the shareholders down due to the lack of profitability. However, she emphasized, "The investment is necessary at this time."
"We are actively expanding in the metaverse ecosystem, encompassing platforms, services, and content creation," Wang stated, highlighting HTC's role as a pioneer in releasing VR devices, citing a range of VIVE VR-related products. "For instance, VIVERSE for Business enables organizations to build a virtual yet collaborative workspace."
Despite her confidence in the future development of the metaverse, Wang acknowledged the limited resources available in Taiwan for MR technology development. She remarked, "We believe there is a vision and future ahead of us, so we must continue investing in this area."
