TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairman Lai Ching-te extended well-wishes to three newly-recruited legislative candidates from different disciplines on Wednesday (June 14).
During the announcement, Lai confirmed that Social Democratic Party member and Taipei City Councilor Miao Po-ya, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Distinguished Professor Carol Lin, and former Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation director Wu Yin-ning are among the latest recruits.
"Today is our third candidate recruitment," the chairman said, emphasizing that as the three candidates come from different disciplines, it illustrates the "cross-party, cross-generation, and cross-discipline" principles.
Concluding his short speech, Lai said: "From the bottom of my heart, I wish all three candidates resounding success and the very best of luck!"
With the latest sexual harassment scandals sweeping across political parties in Taiwan, Lai needs to step up and nominate upright candidates to counter the damaging blow as the party head.
