KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The high-speed rail company unveils on Thursday (May 11) its intensive safety training for new recruits, which includes challenging tasks such as climbing trains and installing 15kg emergency ladders within a limited time frame.
The rigorous training program applies to all new service personnel regardless of gender. In an emergency where the train cannot stop at the platform, female trainees must set up the 15kg emergency ladder on their own.
They must ascend and descend the ladder to ensure safety within 90 seconds, as this is the first test they must pass. Once the passengers are safe and the ladder is secure, the trainees must climb the carriages.
According to a high-speed rail staff member, the trainees are instructed to "maintain three points and move just one point" when getting on and off the train.
One service trainee, Cai Ya-cheng, said on the ladder exercise: "When I first lifted it, it was indeed quite heavy, but after practicing for a while, I’ve mastered how to reduce the effort. It becomes easy over time."
To ensure that service personnel can remain calm and effectively assist passengers during emergencies, the high-speed rail company has made it mandatory to complete 368 hours of course training and over two months of internships before taking the qualification tests.
By undergoing such extensive training, the company is confident that its personnel can handle emergencies professionally and efficiently.
