TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hotels are experiencing an uptick in international and local customers as the tourism industry rebounds in post-pandemic Taiwan. As demand surges, many new hotels are currently under construction across various cities.
Beth Tsai, an assistant public relations vice president of an international hotel, explained that the development benefits the global tourism industry.
"These top international brands opening shop in Taipei hotels benefit all parties involved and enhance the city's and Taiwan's overall international visibility," she said.
Numerous international hotel brands are joining forces with local developers to expand their presence in Taiwan.
Around 15 hotels operated by the brands on the developers' behalf could open in the country within the next five years, according to various sources.
Luxury hotels are also broadening their horizons by incorporating boutique brands and clothing stores, while partnerships with other businesses enable hotels to boost revenue streams beyond occupancy rates.
"Many new hotels collaborate with other businesses today, which could mean incorporating shopping malls or office buildings alongside the hotel," real-estate analyst Ho Shih-chang said.
In February 2023, Taiwan experienced a substantial increase in inbound travelers, with visitor arrivals rising from over 250,000 in January to nearly 370,000.
Despite the ongoing challenges of running hotels, the steady growth in Taiwan's tourism industry highlights the potential benefits of adding more international hotel brands.
Such additions could significantly strengthen the local tourism industry.
