SIMI VALLEY (TVBS News) —  U.S. House Speaker and several congressional members took to the stage on Wednesday (April 5) to reiterate the United States' support for Taiwan while urging for peace across the Taiwan Strait.

During the press conference following House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's meeting with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, the media asked whether the U.S. would provide military support if China should attack the island.

To this, McCarthy expressed hope that the hypothetical question is never asked, adding that the meeting with Tsai was made to hope that an outbreak of war never happens across the strait.

Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the CCP Raja Krishnamoorthi also emphasized on the podium that Taiwan and its people deserve freedom.

At the same time, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar stated that they would work "hand in glove with the Biden Administration" to affirm their commitment to their support for Taiwan.

"We understand the unique role and vital role that Taiwan plays in the region," Aguilar said.

The historic meeting between President Tsai and U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday marked the first time a Taiwan leader met with a House Speaker on American soil.
