TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the construction budget surges, Taipei is now responsible for paying NT$5.7 billion toward the Keelung MRT project.
The Keelung MRT route is planned to pass through Taipei MRT's Nangang Exhibition Station and Nangang Station.
These two stations now cost Taipei City NT$1.7 billion more than the previous NT$4.05 billion.
The cost of constructing the Keelung MRT will be shared between the central and local gov't in Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung.
Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an said, "We are waiting for relevant information from the Railway Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. We'll discuss it once it is received."
The total cost to build the Keelung MRT has risen over NT$6.96 billion from NT$4.25 billion.
