TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's law enforcement is leading the charge toward sustainability with their recent commitment to transition all police scooters to electric power by 2028.
By going green, they are paving the way for an eco-friendly future while protecting citizens and upholding justice. In Taipei, police departments began introducing e-scooters into their fleet three years ago.
There are currently 4,381 scooters in Taiwan, including 1,552 electric ones, according to Taipei City Police Department Logistics Division Assistant Wang Ming-hsiang.
In the past, there were concerns about whether e-scooters would benefit the police force. Some were worried they might run out of juice in the middle of a police chase, thereby letting the suspect get away.
However, officials pointed out that the e-scooters have the capacity to travel 110 kilometers on a full charge, which is approximately the distance from Taipei to Miaoli County.
As more e-scooters are introduced to the police force, Taiwan takes one step forward in achieving its net-zero emissions goal by 2050.
