HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Factories operating within the Hsinchu Science Park commenced a reduction in water consumption in March as a result of scarce rainfall, according to reports.

Wang Yung-chuang (王永壯), director-general of the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau, has confirmed that the top 10 factories with the highest water consumption have voluntarily agreed to decrease their usage by 5 percent.

The latest data released by the Central Weather Bureau indicates that the average accumulated rainfall in winter across Hsinchu to the southern region of Taiwan has been the lowest in the past six decades.

Reports also suggest that water levels at Hsinchu's Baoshan Reservoir have reached critical lows, while the Donghe Canal in Mioali has almost run dry.

Additionally, reservoirs situated in southern Taiwan have also been severely impacted.

In a similar move, the Southern Taiwan Science Park had previously announced their plans to reduce water consumption in February, with implementation set to begin in March.
