TAIPEI (TVBS News) — TVBS Insight People recently traveled to Germany to interview Grace Chung, the first and only female sales director at Porsche, at the luxury car manufacturer's headquarters in Stuttgart.
As the only TV news station invited to this prestigious destination, TVBS arranged for senior anchor and host Georgina Fang and reporter Liu Yi-hsien to lead the team.
During the interview, they could hear Chung's inspiring story, learn about her passion for cars, and gain insight into her path to success.
Despite the global pandemic that began three years ago, the automotive industry is gradually recovering, and Porsche is no exception.
At Porsche headquarters, Chung pointed to the car manufacturer's classic 911 Turbo from the 1960s. She explained that when she was little, that was the model that caught her eye.
"What attracted me is its round lights, that bar in the front, and its streamlined body; I thought it was the coolest," she said, smiling fondly.
In pursuing her passion for cars, Chung became a regional director in Porsche China before joining the Porsche Taiwan Motors team in January 2019, making history as Porsche's first female sales director.
Historically, the car manufacturing industry has been predominantly male, creating somewhat of a "boy's club" environment.
Nevertheless, as an Asian woman, Chung successfully established herself within this white-male-dominated field. Consequently, adapting to diverse work cultures and environments has become an essential skill for her.
Chung observed, "Germans exhibit a highly organized and principled demeanor, adhering strictly to rules and conventions."
She added that what makes Porsche a perfect fit for her was the company's willingness to listen, explaining, “What entices me most about Porsche is the company's admirable disregard for limitations based on race, nationality, age, or gender."
Being the only female sales director among the roughly 20 at Porsche, Chung considers herself fortunate to have combined her love for cars with her career.
Today, Chung remains fully committed, giving her utmost effort in all aspects of her work as she continues to work with her beloved Porsches.
