NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City government hosted its first major talent recruitment event of the year.
Fifty-six firms participated, seeking to fill more than 3,000 job openings, primarily in the service, retail, and technology manufacturing sectors.

"With our expansion in stores, coupled with the declining birth rate in recent years, in total, we have around 100 to 150 job vacancies available this year," Tseng Yu-ting, a recruitment specialist for a restaurant chain, said.
"Our entire salary and benefits have also been adjusted compared to previous years. The salary increase last year was around 5%," she added.

The New Taipei City Government's Labor Affairs Department reported that the service and retail industry accounted for 34% of job vacancies. In contrast, the hotel, food, and beverage industry accounted for 27%.
According to Huang Ruo-wei from a local job bank, "enterprises have shown a decline in their willingness for salary adjustments and increases in the current year."

"A survey found that 45% of enterprises have plans for salary adjustments in Q1, compared to 53% in the previous year, indicating a slight decrease in their willingness to raise salaries," she added.
"The expected average salary increase this year is 3.7%, nearly 1% lower than the 4.6% seen last year," she continued.
Scholars express concern over the possibility of a rise in the unemployment rate in the coming year, attributing the potential increase to a decline in exports.
They predict that unemployment and employees could be asked to take unpaid leave may rise in the food and beverage and retail industries.
However, some scholars believe that Taiwan's economic growth rate remains at 2%, leading them to think that the impact on unemployment this year will be insignificant.
"Certain industries or small and medium-sized enterprises may face significant challenges," said Chen Hsin-hui, a researcher at the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research
However, some industries driven by domestic demand have started to recover following the impact of the pandemic and have seen an upward trend, such as fitness equipment sales," she added.

In December 2022, the Consumer Price Index saw an annual increase of 2.71%. The rise in prices outpaced the increase in wages in Taiwan, causing financial struggles for many individuals.
According to market research conducted by Money101, 42.73% of surveyed individuals reported difficulties in making ends meet.
With an influx of job opportunities available after the Lunar New Year, many individuals seek career advancement or shifts to secure a higher wage.
