TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Enoch Wu shared his hopes to earn back the public's trust on Thursday (Dec. 2) following his nomination by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in a legislative by-election on Jan. 8, 2023.
The legislative seat was recently vacated by former Kuomintang (KMT) legislator Chiang Wan-an who was elected Taipei Mayor on Nov. 26.
Chiang defeated Wu in the 2016 legislative elections in the aforesaid electoral district. He is a former deputy director of the DPP-affiliated New Frontier Foundation.
With another shot at the legislative seat, Wu vowed to learn from the DPP's mistakes in the local elections and strive to meet the expectations of the people.
He has already put forth proposals focused on pushing for urban revitalization, strengthening national security and competitiveness, and making Taiwan a bilingual nation.
With less than five weeks to go before the by-elections on Jan. 8, the opposition KMT has also nominated Taipei City councilor Wang Hung-wei to go head-to-head with Wu.
Due to time constraints, both parties have a small window to prove their worthiness before Taipei residents cast their ballots next year.
