TAIPEI (TVBS News) － The nine-in-one elections are just a month away. On Nov. 26, eligible voters will cast their ballots at their local polling stations. They will elect the likes of county magistrates, county councilors, township mayors, township councilors and chiefs of villages in 6 municipalities and 16 counties for a four-year term.
Currently, there are 14 Kuomintang (KMT) mayors and magistrates, namely in New Taipei City, Taichung City, Yilan County, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Taitung County, Hualien County and in Penghu Country.
There are 6 Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) mayors and magistrates, in Taoyuan City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Chiayi County, Pingtung County, and Keelung City. And there is also one mayor from the Taiwan's People's Party in Taipei City.
Although the DPP is currently the ruling party, there are actually more pan-blue, KMT magistrates and mayors across the country. And this year's elections will also reveal if there has been a rise in support for the Taiwan People's party, which was established in 2019.
As tensions across the world continue to rise, this election will be one of the most direct ways to see the latest opinion of the Taiwanese public, and if they are satisfied with the current ruling officials, and the Tsai government's direction.
