TAIPEI (TVBS News) - The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States hosted a National Day banquet at the Twin Oaks estate in Washington, D.C. to celebrate Taiwan's upcoming National Day.
Taiwan's Representative to the U.S. Hsiao Bi-khim especially wore a broach in the shape of Taiwan to celebrate the occasion. International guests in attendance, including John Bolton, the former national security adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, enjoyed a Taiwanese experience at this year's night market-themed carnival.
"While this occasion today should've been one for pure celebration of progress, I must admit that my mood is unfortunately also clouded by the looming threats to Taiwan's democracy and security. President Tsai has made clear that we will not provoke, and yet, we will not submit to coercion," siad Hsiao Bi-khim, the Taiwan (R.O.C.) Representative to the U.S.
The speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, was not in attendance but sent a letter of congratulations, which stated. "It was my great honor to join you in Taipei this August to reaffirm the bipartisan, bicameral and ironclad support in the Congress for Taiwan. Our two nations continue to enjoy an unshakable bond. Working together, the people of America and Taiwan will continue advancing our common mission for years to come."
Taiwan, the Republic of China will celebrate its 111's birthday on Monday, Oct. 10.
