SINGAPORE (TVBS News) - Nicholas Burns, the U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, expressed concerns on Thursday (Sept. 29) at China's attempt "to change policy here now is Beijing," stressing that "we warned that we won't agree to that. We don't accept it."

Burns reiterated at the Asia Summit that the One China policy has not changed, and America will continue to adhere to it.

"If anyone has changed policy here, it's really the People's Republic of China with their overreaction nearly two months ago now to Speaker Pelosi's visit," said Nicholas Burns, the U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China.

Burns said that the United States will continue to abide by international law when transiting through the Taiwan Strait. He stressed that the comments by U.S. President Biden and Vice President Harris are consistent despite the contradictory comments from the White House.

"The President was clear. Jake Sullivan has spoken about this, he was clear, the Vice President has spoken, so I don't actually think that's the problem. I think the major problem here is that we're seeing a new offender if you will, by the People's Republic of China, very aggressive towards Taiwan," said Nicholas Burns, the U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China.

In regards to the U.S. and China's current relationship status, Nicholas Burns, the U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China said: "I think it's a more complicated competition, frankly, in many ways than the old Cold War was. We're going to try to compete with China, vigorously, and then work with China where we can. We hope the Chinese will reciprocate. They've frozen a lot of our dialogue since Speaker Pelosi's visit."

This year's Asia Summit, held by the Milken Institute in Singapore, saw more than 1,200 global leaders in business, politics, entertainment and media in attendance, together to amplify and discuss global issues and exchange ideas

As cross-strait tensions remain high between Taiwan and China, U.S.-China relations are a major point of discussion at this years Asia Summit, as all are watching to see what may happen next, as it not only affect the whole region but also the whole world.
