TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kinmen Magistrate Yang Cheng-wu gathered with 28 townsmen association leaders on Sept. 13 with the Mainland Affairs Council to propose resuming operations of the "Mini-Three-Links" transportation hub between China and Taiwan.
After being halted for 3 years due to the pandemic, Yang is hoping a change could be on the way. "For Kinmen, all kinds of traffic are affected, whether it is the people's livelihood or humanitarian efforts," he said
"Now that the country is gradually opening its doors, and we are co-existing with the virus, the central government should not treat Kinmen differently," Yang added. Yang proposed that ferries should be able to travel to and forth in October for starters, though borders can remain closed for the time being.
Aiming for the full resumption of business in the upcoming holidays, Yang and Mainland Affairs Council head Chiu Tai-san finally reached a preliminary consensus. Though specific details are still under discussion, Yang is actively pushing for more interactive channels so that Kinmen's tourism industry can be revived soon.
