TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A tropical depression east of the Philippines might soon evolve into Typhoon Trami (潭美), the 20th typhoon of the year, Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported on Monday (Oct. 21).
CWA forecaster Chao Hung (趙竑) explained that the system will approach Taiwan on Oct. 24-25, leading to increased moisture and unstable weather conditions. He mentioned that sea warnings might be issued if the typhoon shifts slightly north after Thursday. However, a westward movement would reduce the likelihood of such warnings.
While the storm's path remains uncertain, significant rainfall is anticipated in eastern Taiwan, especially in Yilan, which has already seen several days of rain. Chao advised residents to prepare for possible disasters, particularly in Hualien and Taitung, where more pronounced rain is expected.
Due to a weakened northeast monsoon, temperatures across Taiwan will hover around 30°C on Oct. 21-22. However, in northern Taiwan, temperatures will range between 24°C and 25°C from the afternoon of Oct. 22-24 as the northeast monsoon intensifies, increasing moisture.
