CWA: Cool mornings, warmer afternoons expected across Taiwan (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said on Wednesday (May 15) that the northeast monsoon slightly weakened, leading to mostly sunny to cloudy weather across Taiwan. However, localized rainfall is expected in the eastern, southeastern regions, and the northeastern mountainous areas.
Weather Outlook
According to the CWA, temperatures in the early morning remained cool, with lows of 18 to 19 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan and 20 to 23 degrees in other regions. As the day progresses, temperatures will gradually rise. The highs are expected to reach 27 to 29 degrees in the north and eastern half, while the central and southern parts could see temperatures between 30 to 31 degrees. The administration advises the public to be mindful of the significant temperature difference between day and night and to adjust clothing accordingly.
The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) simulation indicates stable and sunny weather from Wednesday to Friday (May 15-17), with occasional light rain in the mountainous areas of the central and southern regions. However, from Saturday to Monday (May 18-20), increased moisture and atmospheric instability due to high-pressure recirculation could lead to cloudy skies with sunny intervals and a chance of localized showers near mountainous areas in the afternoon.
Looking Ahead
By next Tuesday (May 21), the strengthening of the southwest wind will further destabilize the atmosphere, mainly maintaining cloudy skies with sunny intervals. The afternoon rainfall is expected to expand in coverage and probability. Additionally, ECMWF ensemble models predict a "tropical disturbance" brewing east of the Philippines over the next week to 10 days. However, its development is slow, and there is no immediate threat to Taiwan.
