TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Unstable weather conditions are expected on Tuesday (April 9) due to the influence of the northeast monsoon and the eastward shift of the South China rain cloud area. Northern Taiwan will experience noticeably lower temperatures, with early morning lows between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius, while central and southern regions could see highs up to 30 degrees.

Atmospheric scientist Lin Te-en said that low temperatures in Taitung and central and southern regions will range between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius. Daytime highs in the north, northeast, and eastern half of the island could rebound to between 21 and 25 degrees, while Taitung could continue to see highs of 27 to 29 degrees or above.

Cloud coverage will be more extensive in areas north of the central region, the eastern half, and mountainous areas in the south, with sporadic showers. Rainfall will be intermittent and unpredictable, with mostly cloudy conditions in the southern plains and scattered showers.

Lin pointed out that the cold air brought by the northeast monsoon will only affect the island's northern, northeastern, and eastern halves, with noticeable temperature drops expected in the north, Yilan, and Hualien during the early morning hours.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) also warned of stronger northeast winds, with gusts of 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale expected in open coastal areas from Taoyuan to Tainan, the Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, Green Island, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Larger waves are expected along the coast, and safety precautions should be taken.

Due to recent frequent earthquakes and a higher chance of rainfall, the CWA advised against unnecessary trips to mountainous areas. Those traveling through these regions should be alert and take protective measures, watching for loose soil, landslides, collapses, and falling rocks, and ensuring personal safety.
