Taiwan braces for downpour and temperature drop this week (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Due to the impact of a frontal system, Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecaster Liu Yu-chi warned on Tuesday (April 30) about heavy localized rain throughout Taiwan beginning on Wednesday (May 1). Liu warned people to prepare for heavy rains in Yilan, Hualien, and the island's western half.
Liu stated that as the front moved in, Kinmen and Matsu saw intermittent showers or thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon (April 30). Taipei and Yilan, hilly regions, would probably get more rain.
Liu indicated Tuesday's temperatures were higher than usual, averaging 32 to 34 degrees Celsius. Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Taitung may have reached 36 degrees Celsius because of strong winds.
Due to the impact of the northeast monsoon, northern Taiwan will cool to 22 to 23 degrees when the front passes on Wednesday (May 1)—an almost 10-degree dip.
