TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration warned Wednesday of unstable weather conditions and potential heavy rainfall over the next week due to the influence of a frontal system. The most significant rainfall is expected on Friday and Saturday.
The heavy rain alert covers several areas, including Keelung City, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, and Changhua County.
The weather bureau issued a heavy rain warning in the early hours, cautioning that as the front passes, there could be short periods of intense rainfall. There is a chance of localized heavy rain in areas north of Changhua County today. Residents are advised to be aware of the risk of lightning strikes and strong gusty winds. Those in mountainous areas should be vigilant against landslides and falling rocks.
As the front moves across the region today, there could be brief showers or thunderstorms in various places. The western half of the island, as well as Yilan and Hualien, could experience localized heavy rain. During the thunderstorm period, in addition to short periods of intense rainfall, there could also be lightning strikes and strong gusty winds.
In terms of temperature, due to overcast conditions and a weak northerly wind following the front, northern Taiwan will turn slightly cooler with highs of around 23 to 25 degrees Celsius. Other areas will see temperatures of around 27 to 30 degrees.
As the front approaches on Thursday, the chance of rainfall across the region will increase from Friday to Sunday. There could be short periods of intense rainfall, brief showers or thunderstorms in the western half and northeastern parts of the island. The western half could see localized heavy rain, while the northeastern parts could experience more significant rainfall. Other areas could also see brief showers or thunderstorms.
The weather bureau forecasts that on Monday and Tuesday next week, the front will be over the northern sea of Taiwan. There could still be brief showers in areas north of central Taiwan, the northeastern parts, and the east. Other areas will be mostly cloudy with a chance of brief afternoon thunderstorms.
