Premier Chen backs Mayday amid China’s influence tactics (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Popular Taiwanese band Mayday received encouragement from Executive Yuan Premier Chen Chien-jen on Saturday (Dec. 29) to "continue to give strength to Mayday."
Chen criticized China's dissemination of false information on a global scale, as reported by Reuters on Thursday. Mayday reportedly faces pressure from China to endorse the "One China" stance before the presidential election.
During a visit to the Guanyin Industrial Park Post Office in Taoyuan, Chen commended Mayday for their prolific creativity within Taiwan's culture of freedom, democracy, diversity, and openness. He expressed hope for their continued production of excellent music for fans.
Legislator-at-large candidate Puma Shen of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) also highlighted China's evident interference in nations worldwide. Quoting Chairman Wang Huning of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Shen stated that the tactic aims to "make Taiwanese feel fear, but not too terrified."
Shen clarified specific actions, such as enticing artists to develop in China for financial gain, gradually leading to control over their speech. These phased approaches typically last from three to six years, ensnaring victims in China's united front tactics.
