TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Trade Representative Yang Jen-ni from the Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN) within the Executive Yuan addressed four key concerns on Thursday (Dec. 21) in response to China's recent trade barriers against Taiwan.
Yang criticized China's investigation process as biased, unfair, nontransparent, and contrary to international norms. Many documents, including applications and comments, were undisclosed or restricted for foreigners.
Yang also pointed out that China bypassed the Taiwan government during the investigation, prioritizing political objectives over economic ones. Yang further accused China of misinterpreting trade policies and creating a false narrative that Taiwan is unwilling to address disputes.
Finally, Yang criticized China for using inflated and unverifiable data in its impact assessment, relying solely on export loss reports without solid evidence.
She urged China to abandon political manipulation and proposed initiating consultations under the World Trade Organization (WTO) mechanism to resolve trade disputes.
