TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on Saturday (Dec. 16) that it has received formal notification from the U.S. government regarding the sale of tactical information systems worth approximately US$300 million, including equipment, training, and technical support.
MOFA warmly welcomed the arms sale and expressed gratitude toward the U.S. for continuing to fulfill its security commitments to Taiwan in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances.
This arms deal marks the twelfth such sale from the Biden administration to Taiwan since 2021, highlighting the U.S. commitment to Taiwan's defense needs and aiding Taiwan in acquiring the necessary defense capabilities to enhance its national defense and deterrence powers.
MOFA reiterated Taiwan's determination to bolster its self-defense capabilities, safeguard its territory, and preserve its democratic and free way of life, amid continuing military expansion and provocation by China.
The foreign ministry also emphasized the ongoing deepening of security partnerships with the U.S. to uphold a rules-based international order and ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
