TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Deputy Spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei expressed gratitude on Sunday (Dec. 10) toward ministers from five diplomatic allies for their advocacy for Taiwan during the high-level side event at COP28.

Leaders from six allies, including Paraguay, Palau, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Tuvalu, and Eswatini, voiced their support for Taiwan at the World Climate Summit, strengthening Taiwan's international backing.

 


Haiti's Minister of Environment, James Cadet, praised Taiwan's commitment to addressing climate change. Marshall Islands’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, John Silk, emphasized Taiwan's right to observer status in such forums.

Guatemala's Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Marco Galindo, highlighted Taiwan's contributions to Guatemala's climate change efforts, while Nauru's Deputy Minister of Climate Change & National Resilience, Reagan Moses, thanked Taiwan for supporting Pacific Island countries in securing Just Transition funds.

Hsiao emphasized Taiwan's willingness to collaborate with allies and like-minded international partners, urging global support for Taiwan's meaningful participation in the UNFCCC.
