TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Labor (MOL) announced plans on Friday to introduce Indian migrant workers to address the country's labor shortages.

The MOL is working on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on labor service cooperation with India. The ministry intends to conduct thorough negotiations at the working level between Taiwan and India to ensure the recruitment of quality workers without affecting social stability.

Several countries, including Australia, Japan, Singapore, the U.S., the UK, and Saudi Arabia, have successfully integrated Indian labor into their workforces.

Currently, about 2,700 Indian laborers are professionally employed in Taiwan. The economic and trade relations between Taiwan and India are strong, with India playing a significant role under Taiwan's New Southbound Policy. This makes labor cooperation a key priority for both nations.

Following the MOU signing, further discussions to open industrial quotas will be held in subsequent working-level meetings. The ministry plans to rigorously evaluate potential Indian workers based on language skills, professional abilities, educational background, and good conduct.

The MOL stresses that the induction of migrant workers should positively contribute to Taiwan's economic and societal growth.
