TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL) fined on Tuesday (Oct. 3) the parent company of Launch Technologies Co. NT$680,000 for violating the "Occupational Safety and Health Act."
The inspections were triggered by a tragic fire at a Launch Technologies factory in Pingtung on Sept. 22, which resulted in over a hundred casualties.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Labor inspected the parent company, Advanced International Multitech Co. Ltd.
The inspections revealed that six of its factories failed to properly handle flammable gases and liquids and provide adequate high-temperature work protections for workers.
Besides, authorities recorded five violations of the Labor Standards Act at these factories, including the failure to notify local authorities about workers' reduced shifts.
The Ministry of Labor will continue to monitor these factories' improvement measures. It also asked the company to properly arrange overtime hours and holiday schemes to ensure workers' rights.
They could face further legal actions if these issues are not addressed, stated the Ministry of Labor.
