TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Efforts are underway to organize a direct meeting between Morris Chang, Taiwan's representative at APEC, and U.S. President Joe Biden, according to a top official from Taiwan's National Security Council (NSC).

Wellington Koo, Secretary-General of the NSC, indicated on Tuesday (Nov. 14) that the Taiwanese government aims to facilitate the meeting between Chang and Biden, confirming that discussions regarding such arrangements are in progress.

Even though Koo did not divulge specific details, Koo pointed out the deep-seated differences between Washington and Beijing on several critical issues, including Taiwan.

He noted, "There are major disagreements on core issues, which could result in counterclaims," suggesting possible tension during an anticipated meeting between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In response to inquiries about whether Chang has been instructed to convey greetings to Xi or relay messages from Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen, Koo answered "No." He further stated, "everything should happen naturally."
