TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foreign Minister Joseph Wu reassured the nation on Monday (Nov. 13) of the United States' steadfast support ahead of U.S. President Joe Biden's upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in San Francisco on Nov. 15.

Addressing a Foreign and National Defense Committee hearing about the 2024 Foreign Ministry budget, Wu emphasized that Taiwan is likely to be a significant topic during the discussions between Biden and Xi.

"In several high-level U.S.-China meetings, Taiwan has always been a key point of discussion," Wu remarked, affirming that the Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring these developments.

The imminent Biden-Xi meeting, coinciding with the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, marks their first face-to-face interaction since the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, last year and their second meeting since Biden assumed office.

In response to rumors about Hsiao Bi-khim, Taiwan's representative in the U.S., potentially returning to Taiwan as a vice-presidential candidate for the Democratic Progressive Party's Lai Ching-Te, Wu clarified that the Ministry refrains from commenting on electoral matters.

Nonetheless, he assured the public that diplomatic position changes are routine and do not undermine Taiwan's relations with the U.S. Wu confirmed that Hsiao continues to diligently represent Taiwan's national interests.
