KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Coldplay's two-day concert at the Kaohsiung National Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 11) and Sunday (Nov. 12) attracted a record-breaking crowd, surpassing the audience numbers previously held by the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, according to the organizers.
Despite the event's success, residents living nearby reported on Facebook that their homes were vibrating, likening the sensation to an earthquake, due to the intensity of the concert. This issue sparked considerable discussion online.
The concert on Sunday saw a turnout of 86,505 people, setting a new attendance record for the stadium.
Kaohsiung Metro data revealed that on Sunday, approximately 32,000 people used the R17 World Games station for concert travel, with an additional 11,800 utilizing shuttle services to and from the Zuoying High Speed Rail Station. This marked a 40% increase in travel from the previous day.
In the face of the large turnout, Kaohsiung successfully managed to evacuate the crowd in 88 minutes on Sunday.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai personally oversaw the operations at the stadium's response center on both days, ensuring effective crowd control and dispersal. The Kaohsiung Metro responded to the increased demand by boosting service frequency.
Additionally, Coldplay's concert significantly boosted local tourism, generating over NT$330 million in revenue.
